Can Wool Carpet be Recycled?

Wool is recyclable and biodegradable. When shredded and used as a fertilizer and soil conditioner, it has been shown to increase dry matter grass yield by as much as 80%. The shredded wool adds essential elements like nitrogen, sulfur, carbon dioxide and magnesium to the soil as well as increasing water retention needed for grass growth. This makes wool carpet a closed loop product (grass-wool-carpet-grass) and uses very little energy to complete the recycling process. Shredded wool also helps to suppress weeds and maintain moisture around trees and other plants.
