The bigger rectangle covers more wall per piece than the 3x12 or 3x6, so you get fewer grout lines and a cleaner, more expansive surface, which suits tall shower walls and open-plan kitchens. Each box holds 12.06 sq ft, more than the other sizes in the line. The gloss glaze and Low (V1) shade variation keep color bright and consistent over large areas.

Best for: Full-height shower walls, large kitchen backsplashes, open-concept feature walls, bathroom wainscoting and laundry rooms.

Colors

Ice 00100: a brilliant white that reads as a nearly continuous sheet on a large wall.

Ivory 00120: a soft warm white that keeps a big tiled area from feeling cold.

Breeze 00510: a pale gray, a subtle step away from white for broad wall spaces.

Why Choose Coastal Prospect Gloss 4x16

Large 3.94" x 15.75" format with fewer grout joints

12.06 sq ft per box, the most coverage in the series

Glossy glaze that brightens tall walls and shower stalls

Low (V1) variation for even color over big areas

Break strength of 250 lbf or more

About 0.31" thick, so it remains manageable to cut

Where to Install

Shaw lists Coastal Prospect Gloss 4x16 as an accent tile, so it is a wall product: shower surrounds, tub walls, backsplashes, bathroom walls and feature walls. It is not meant for floors, and with no frost rating from Shaw it is for interior use. Because the pieces are longer, check the wall for flatness before setting and use a one-third offset rather than a half bond to minimize lippage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 4x16 subway tile too big for a backsplash? No. Coastal Prospect Gloss 4x16 works on most kitchen backsplashes and suits larger kitchens especially well, because fewer grout lines make the wall look calmer; on a very short run, the smaller 3x12 or 3x6 can look more proportional.

How does Coastal Prospect 4x16 differ from the 3x12? Coastal Prospect Gloss 4x16 is wider and longer than the Coastal Prospect Gloss 3x12, with 12.06 sq ft per box versus 10.66, and it produces fewer joints. Coastal Prospect Gloss 4x16 is well suited to shower walls since its large format cuts down on grout to clean; install it over a waterproofing membrane and choose a separate floor-rated tile for the shower pan.

What offset should I use with 4x16 tile? For Coastal Prospect Gloss 4x16, a one-third offset or a straight stack is recommended, since a 50% offset on 16-inch pieces can exaggerate slight warpage and cause uneven edges.

Which Coastal Prospect color is best for a small bathroom? In a small bath, Coastal Prospect Gloss 4x16 in Ice maximizes reflected light, Ivory adds warmth under yellow-toned bulbs, and Breeze gives subtle contrast with white fixtures without darkening the room.

Product Specs

Style: Coastal Prospect 4x16 Gloss #607TS

Brand: Shaw Floors

Look: Large-format subway

Material: Glazed Ceramic

Size: 3.94" x 15.75" (nominal 4" x 16")

Thickness: 0.307"

Finish: Gloss

Shade Variation: Low (V1)

Water Absorption: > 0.50% (semi-vitreous)

Break Strength: ≥ 250 lbf

Use: Walls only (accent tile), interior

Sq.
