Marmoleum Cinch Loc Seal Agate is a 12" x 12" click-together linoleum square from Forbo, made mainly from linseed oil, pine rosin and wood flour. Named after the banded semi-precious stone, Agate gives you a mineral-inspired neutral in a format that floats over the subfloor without glue.

Best for: entryways, home offices and hallways where you want a calm stone-like neutral that hides everyday dust.

The Look

Agate takes its cue from the stone of the same name, so think of an earthy, mineral neutral rather than a flat solid. Because Marmoleum is a natural linoleum, slight shade differences between production runs are normal, which is why we suggest checking a sample against your trim and paint before you order.

Installation

Agate floats, so it never bonds to the subfloor. Forbo asks for a perimeter gap of 3/8" at walls, cabinets, pipes and door frames, and a vapor barrier over every concrete slab. Plan an expansion joint at doorways into hallways or closets, and in any run longer than 40 feet.

What does Marmoleum Agate look like? Agate is a stone-inspired neutral named after the banded mineral. Natural linoleum varies a little from lot to lot, so order a free sample to judge it in your own room.

Is Agate real linoleum or vinyl? It is real linoleum. Forbo makes the Marmoleum surface mainly from linseed oil, pine rosin and wood flour, mounted on an HDF core with a cork backing.

Do I need glue to install Agate squares? No. The squares join with the Välinge 5G click lock and float over the subfloor, and Forbo says the floor can be walked on right after installation.

How many cartons do I need for an Agate floor? Each carton holds 7 squares covering 6.78 sq ft. Add at least 8% for overage, and note that Marmoleum orders have a 15-carton minimum.
