Philadelphia Commercial Alchemist 36x36 Large-Format Loose Lay Luxury Vinyl Tile

Philadelphia Commercial Alchemist (style #5598V) is an oversized 36" x 36" loose lay luxury vinyl tile for heavy commercial interiors, reinforced with fiberglass and protected by an ExoGuard+® finish. The square three-foot format is what sets it apart: far fewer seams cross the room than with a standard plank, so open floors look calm and continuous. Because Alchemist is installed loose lay, crews can put it down with little adhesive, and a single damaged tile can be lifted out later. Its six colors stay in a tight neutral band with one plum-toned accent.

Best for: Corporate lobbies, open-plan workplaces, showrooms, flagship retail, airport and transit concourses, and large public corridors.

Colors

• Radiance 00100: a pale greige with a faint green-gray undertone, the brightest option.
• Courageous 00400: a cool slate gray with a hint of blue, for crisp modern interiors.
• Oneness 00500: a balanced mid gray with a slight rosy warmth.
• Union 00510: warm mid gray, a shade more beige than Oneness.
• Abundance 00520: a deeper taupe-gray with brown undertones.
• Awareness 00900: a dusky plum-brown, the one color with a clear hue.

Five neutrals plus Awareness give enough range to zone a large floor without leaving the gray family. Order free samples of the 36x36 tile to judge scale in person.

Why Choose Alchemist 36x36

• 36" x 36" format puts fewer seams across large open floors
• Fiberglass-reinforced heavy commercial construction helps the tile lie flat and stable
• ExoGuard+® finish for help against scuffs and stains
• Loose lay installation for faster projects and simple single-tile swaps
• Tight neutral palette with a single plum accent for zoning

Installation Methods

Alchemist is approved for loose lay. Rather than bonding every square inch, a loose lay tile relies on its weight, its fiberglass-stabilized body and tight fit to stay put, which is why the format works for floors that may need to be opened up again. Large 36x36 tiles demand a flat, clean subfloor, since any ridge or dip shows more across a three-foot surface. Base your subfloor preparation, moisture testing and any recommended tackifier on the Alchemist spec sheet and Shaw's installation guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size is Alchemist vinyl tile? Philadelphia Commercial Alchemist is a 36" x 36" square luxury vinyl tile, a large format that reduces the number of seams compared with standard planks or 12x24 tiles.

Why choose a 36x36 vinyl tile for a lobby? A big tile like Alchemist keeps grout-like joint lines to a minimum, so a lobby or concourse reads as one broad surface. The scale also suits tall, open spaces where small modules can look busy.

Is Alchemist reinforced? Yes. Alchemist is built as a heavy commercial luxury vinyl tile with fiberglass, which helps a loose lay tile of this size stay dimensionally stable.

What colors does Alchemist come in? Alchemist comes in six colors: Radiance, Courageous, Oneness, Union, Abundance and Awareness. Most are grays and greiges, while Awareness adds a muted plum-brown.

Can one Alchemist tile be replaced? Because Alchemist is a loose lay tile, a stained or gouged tile can usually be lifted and swapped without disturbing the rest of the floor. Keep spare tiles from the same lot for that purpose.

Specifier Tips

Center the first Alchemist tile on the room's main axis or entry door so cut tiles land evenly at the walls; with a 36-inch module, a poorly planned start can leave thin slivers. Use Radiance in the field of a bright lobby and border it with Abundance to frame a reception desk, or bring in Awareness to mark a waiting zone. Order attic stock for replacements, and pair the tile with walk-off carpet tile at the entrance to keep grit off the vinyl.
