Shaw Studio 8x40 Painted Wood-Look Porcelain Tile

Shaw Studio 8x40 (style 202TS) is a glazed porcelain plank tile measuring 7.87" x 39.37" (nominal 8" x 40") with a painted and weathered wood look, made in the United States. Instead of plain stained oak, most of its four colors imitate boards with a worn coat of paint: whitewashed Miami, blue-gray Manhattan and gray-green London, with Rome as a warm rustic oak. The lightly textured surface adds a tactile, aged feel, and moderate (V2) variation keeps planks from repeating. Studio is frost resistant and impervious, with a wet DCOF of 0.42 or higher.

Best for: Coastal and farmhouse living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, mudrooms, sunrooms and covered porches.

Colors

• London 00200: weathered gray-green planks with a sun-faded, seaside look.
• Manhattan 00540: blue-gray painted wood, like an old porch floor.
• Miami 00100: whitewashed boards that keep a room bright and beachy.
• Rome 00700: warm rustic oak with a lived-in, traditional character.

Where to Install

Shaw rates Studio 8x40 frost resistant, and as a floor tile it can be laid on floors or walls in indoor and outdoor spaces. Lay it in living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, mudrooms and sunrooms, or carry it onto a covered porch or patio. It also makes a cottage-style plank wall or shower surround.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Shaw Studio tile real painted wood? No. Shaw Studio 8x40 is glazed porcelain that imitates painted and weathered wood planks, giving the look without the peeling, warping or water damage of real painted boards.

Can I use Studio wood-look tile on a porch? Yes. Because Shaw Studio 8x40 is rated frost resistant and its water absorption is 0.50% or less, it can go on covered porches and patios when the exterior substrate is properly prepared.

What offset should I use for 8x40 plank tile? Use a random offset or one of no more than 33% with Studio 8x40, since long planks can have slight bow and a 50% offset increases lippage.

What grout looks best with whitewashed wood-look tile? For Studio in Miami, a light warm gray or almond grout blends with the whitewash and keeps the planks looking like boards rather than tile.

Where is Shaw Studio made? Shaw Studio 8x40 is made in the United States, according to Shaw's product specifications.

Design Pairing Guide

London pairs with white shiplap, rope details and brushed nickel. Manhattan looks right with white cabinetry, navy textiles and polished chrome; Miami with sand-colored linen, rattan and pale blue walls. Rome suits cream cabinets, wrought iron and oil-rubbed bronze for a farmhouse feel.
