Sphera EC Conductive Commercial Sheet Vinyl Flooring by Forbo

Sphera EC is the electrostatic conductive version of Forbo's Sphera homogeneous sheet vinyl. Its lower resistance, 5 x 10⁴ to 1 x 10⁶ ohms surface to ground, drains static charge to ground faster than a dissipative floor. The conductive properties run through the full 2.0 mm thickness, and the floor is installed over a grounded copper strap system.

Best for: Controlled environments that call for a conductive floor, such as sensitive electronics handling and other areas specified for conductive ESD flooring.

Colors

Sphera EC is offered here in 1 color:

• White: White EC 450000

Why Choose Sphera EC

• Permanent conductive performance: 5 x 10⁴ to 1 x 10⁶ ohms surface to ground
• Homogeneous construction, with color and conductivity through the full thickness
• Wide 79" sheet with heat-welded seams for a continuous, cleanable floor
• Class 1 fire rating (ASTM E648)
• Suitable for office chairs with castors (ISO 4918)
• 100% phthalate-free, CHPS 01350 compliant and contributes to LEED v4.1 credits
• Limited 15-year warranty

How Static Control Sheet Vinyl Is Sold

Sphera EC is a 2.0 mm (0.080") homogeneous vinyl sheet in rolls about 79" (2 m) wide x about 88 ft long, about 64 sq yd per roll. It is cut to the length your project needs and quoted by the square yard. The factory edge is not seam quality, so allow at least 1" for seam trimming at each seam. Give us your room dimensions and we will help you plan roll cuts and quantities.

Because sheet is cut to your order, cut sheet goods are not returnable. Please confirm colors with samples and measurements with your installer before ordering.

Installation and Supplies

Sphera EC is a glue-down floor installed by a flooring professional over a copper grounding strap system, with seams heat-welded. Installation supplies, including the grounding strap, are sold only with a Sphera flooring order and are included in your quote.

• Adhesive: A 4" band of Forbo C 930 over the self-adhering copper grounding strap and Forbo V 1190 for the rest of the floor, as specified in Forbo's Sphera SD | EC Installation Guidelines (v1.10) and Technical Data Sheet (v1.44).
• Grounding: Self-adhering copper grounding strap, connected to the building ground by a licensed electrician. Forbo's Sphera SD | EC Installation Guidelines (v1.10) require at least one grounding point for every 500 sq ft, at least two for every 1,000 sq ft, and one more grounded strap for each additional 1,000 sq ft, plus a 3 ft piece of strap at every cross seam.
• Seams: Heat welded with Sphera welding rod (4 mm, 165 linear ft per spool), no sooner than 24 hours after installation
• Care: A pH-neutral cleaner for routine cleaning. Forbo's Sphera SD and EC floor care guidelines say not to apply wax or emulsion floor finishes in ESD protected areas, because they can affect the conductive properties

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Sphera EC and Sphera SD? Both are homogeneous static control sheet from Forbo. Sphera EC is conductive, 5 x 10^4 to 1 x 10^6 ohms surface to ground. Sphera SD is static dissipative, 1 x 10^6 to 1 x 10^8 ohms. Your project's ESD specification decides which one you need.

How is Sphera EC sold and priced? It is cut to length from 79" x about 88 ft rolls and quoted by the square yard. Call 1-888-976-8166 with your square footage for a project quote. The minimum order is 250 sq ft.

Can I return Sphera EC? No. Sheet is cut to the length you order, so cut sheet goods are not returnable. Order free samples first to confirm your colors.

Does Sphera EC need special installation? Yes. It is installed over a self-adhering copper grounding strap connected to the building ground by a licensed electrician, using Forbo C 930 adhesive over the strap and Forbo V 1190 elsewhere. Do not apply wax or floor finish in ESD areas.

What warranty does Sphera EC have? Forbo lists a limited 15-year warranty for Sphera EC.

Can I order samples? Yes. Request free samples to see the colors in person before you order.

Specifier Tips

Confirm the resistance range your project's ESD program calls for before you choose between Sphera EC and Sphera SD. Grounding strap placement should be agreed before installation starts, and Forbo notes that resistance readings recorded for warranty registration must be taken surface to ground. Keep seams away from grounding points so the strap is not damaged when the welding rod is trimmed.
