Sphera SD Static Dissipative Commercial Sheet Vinyl Flooring by Forbo

Sphera SD is Forbo's static dissipative homogeneous sheet vinyl. The color and the static control run through the full 2.0 mm thickness, so the floor keeps its electrical performance for its whole life instead of depending on a topical treatment. Installed over a grounded copper strap system, it carries static charge away from people and equipment at a controlled rate of 1 x 10⁶ to 1 x 10⁸ ohms surface to ground.

Best for: Electronics production and assembly, laboratories, and other controlled environments where static discharge has to be managed.

How Static Control Sheet Vinyl Is Sold

Sphera SD is a 2.0 mm (0.080") homogeneous vinyl sheet in rolls about 79" (2 m) wide x about 88 ft long, about 64 sq yd per roll. It is cut to the length your project needs and quoted by the square yard. The factory edge is not seam quality, so allow at least 1" for seam trimming at each seam. Give us your room dimensions and we will help you plan roll cuts and quantities.

Because sheet is cut to your order, cut sheet goods are not returnable. Please confirm colors with samples and measurements with your installer before ordering.

Installation and Supplies

Sphera SD is a glue-down floor installed by a flooring professional over a copper grounding strap system, with seams heat-welded. Installation supplies, including the grounding strap, are sold only with a Sphera flooring order and are included in your quote.

• Adhesive: A 4" band of Forbo C 930 over the self-adhering copper grounding strap and Forbo V 1190 for the rest of the floor, as specified in Forbo's Sphera SD | EC Installation Guidelines (v1.10) and Technical Data Sheet (v1.44).
• Grounding: Self-adhering copper grounding strap, connected to the building ground by a licensed electrician. Forbo's Sphera SD | EC Installation Guidelines (v1.10) require at least one grounding point for every 500 sq ft, at least two for every 1,000 sq ft, and one more grounded strap for each additional 1,000 sq ft, plus a 3 ft piece of strap at every cross seam.
• Seams: Heat welded with Sphera welding rod (4 mm, 165 linear ft per spool), no sooner than 24 hours after installation
• Care: A pH-neutral cleaner for routine cleaning. Forbo's Sphera SD and EC floor care guidelines say not to apply wax or emulsion floor finishes in ESD protected areas, because they can affect the conductive properties

What is the difference between Sphera SD and Sphera EC? Both are homogeneous static control sheet from Forbo. Sphera SD is static dissipative, 1 x 10^6 to 1 x 10^8 ohms surface to ground. Sphera EC is conductive, 5 x 10^4 to 1 x 10^6 ohms, for areas that need static drained to ground faster. Your project's ESD specification decides which one you need.

How is Sphera SD sold and priced? It is cut to length from 79" x about 88 ft rolls and quoted by the square yard. Call 1-888-976-8166 with your square footage for a project quote. The minimum order is 250 sq ft.

Specifier Tips

Confirm the resistance range your project's ESD program calls for before you choose between Sphera SD and Sphera EC. Grounding strap placement should be agreed before installation starts, and Forbo notes that resistance readings recorded for warranty registration must be taken surface to ground. Keep seams away from grounding points so the strap is not damaged when the welding rod is trimmed.
