Shaw Coastal Prospect 3x12 Matte Subway Ceramic Wall Tile

Shaw Coastal Prospect Matte 3x12 (style 604TS) is a nominal 3" x 12" glazed ceramic wall tile with a soft matte face, offered in Ice, Ivory and Breeze. Its matte glaze is the key difference from the gloss 3x12: instead of reflecting light, it diffuses it, so the wall reads calm and slightly velvety and glare from windows or pendant lights drops away. The elongated rectangle creates a slimmer, more architectural rhythm than a standard 3x6 subway. Shade variation is Low (V1), so the tone stays steady across the installation, which suits minimalist and Scandinavian-style rooms.

Best for: Minimalist kitchens, spa-style bathroom walls, shower surrounds, mudroom walls and accent walls behind open shelving.

Colors

• Ice 00100: a bright white that looks chalky and soft in matte, less clinical than a polished white.
• Ivory 00120: a gentle off-white with warmth, pleasant in rooms with natural wood and linen.
• Breeze 00510: a pale gray with a muted, understated quality in this low-sheen finish.

Why Choose Coastal Prospect Matte 3x12

• Matte glaze that cuts glare and tends to show smudges less than gloss
• 2.91" x 11.63" elongated format for a streamlined wall
• Low (V1) variation for a uniform finish
• Rated at 250 lbf or more for break strength
• 10.66 sq ft per box
• Matches the gloss 3x12 and the 3x6 sizes for mixed-finish designs

Where to Install

Coastal Prospect Matte 3x12 carries Shaw's accent classification, which limits it to wall use: kitchen backsplashes, bathroom walls, shower walls with proper waterproofing, wainscoting and accent walls. It is not designed for floors. No frost rating is listed by Shaw, so use it indoors. A vertical stack in the matte finish makes a ceiling look taller, especially in small bathrooms and powder rooms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is matte subway tile harder to clean than glossy? Not by much. Shaw Coastal Prospect Matte 3x12 has a glazed surface that wipes clean with a damp cloth and mild cleaner; the matte texture simply diffuses light, so it tends to hide fingerprints and splashes better than a high-gloss tile.

How does Coastal Prospect Matte 3x12 compare to the gloss version? Coastal Prospect Matte 3x12 and its gloss twin share the same 2.91" x 11.63" size, three colors and 10.66 sq ft box, but the matte has a low-sheen surface while the Coastal Prospect Gloss 3x12 is reflective. Some designers mix the two in one color for a subtle striped effect.

Can I install Coastal Prospect Matte 3x12 vertically? Yes. A vertical stack of Coastal Prospect Matte 3x12 draws the eye upward and suits modern bathrooms and shower walls; use a laser level, because vertical joints reveal any drift more clearly than horizontal rows.

Can Coastal Prospect Matte go on a bathroom floor? No. Coastal Prospect Matte 3x12 is classified by Shaw as an accent tile for walls and backsplashes, so choose a floor-rated tile for the bathroom floor and use this one on the walls above.

What grout pairs with matte Breeze gray tile? For Coastal Prospect Matte 3x12 in Breeze, a matching light gray grout creates a quiet, monolithic wall, while a white grout gives a softer outline and a charcoal grout adds definition.

Design Pairing Guide

Matte Ice pairs well with white oak floating shelves, matte black faucets and warm white walls for a Scandinavian kitchen. Ivory sits nicely with greige cabinets, travertine-look counters and brushed brass. Breeze works with deep green or slate-blue vanities, chrome fixtures and natural stone accessories.
