Shaw Method 8x36 Long-Plank Oak-Look Ceramic Tile

Shaw Method 8x36 (style 526TS) is a glazed ceramic wood-look plank measuring a nominal 8" x 36" that recreates oak boards in five shades, from pale Daybreak to deep Eternity. Compared with its 7x22 sibling, this longer and wider format cuts down the number of end joints across a room, so living areas and open kitchens read more like a run of hardwood. The smooth surface keeps the oak grain crisp, and moderate (V2) shade variation adds board-to-board difference without looking patchy.

Best for: Open-plan living rooms, kitchens, dining rooms, long hallways, basements and feature walls.

Colors

  • Daybreak 00150: a light oak washed with a subtle pinkish beige, best in sunny rooms.
  • Paramount 00200: golden natural oak that reads as a timeless hardwood color.
  • Aerial 00250: an amber-honey tone with more saturation, good for warming cool light.
  • Sterling 00500: a muted gray-taupe oak suited to modern neutral schemes.
  • Eternity 00750: a deep cocoa-brown plank that grounds large rooms.

Why Choose Method 8x36

  • 36" length means fewer end joints for a hardwood-style floor
  • Nearly 8" width for a wider-board appearance
  • Wet DCOF of 0.42 or higher for interior kitchens and baths
  • Moderate (V2) shade variation in a smooth finish
  • 19.26 sq ft per box at 0.362" thick
  • Same five colors as Method 7x22, so you can coordinate rooms

Where to Install

Method 8x36 is a Floor-type glazed ceramic, approved for interior floors and walls. Long planks show best in larger rooms such as living areas, open kitchens, hallways and finished basements, where the length can run parallel to the longest wall. With no frost rating listed, it is meant for indoor use. Long ceramic planks need a flat substrate, so check the subfloor and use a leveling clip system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I choose Method 8x36 or Method 7x22? Choose Shaw Method 8x36 for larger, open rooms where fewer joints matter, and the Method 7x22 for small baths, closets and floors that are less flat; both come in the same five oak colors.

Is 8x36 tile hard to install? Shaw Method 8x36 planks are long enough that subfloor flatness matters, so most installers use a leveling system and offset joints by no more than a third of the plank to limit lippage.

What is the water absorption of Shaw Method 8x36? Shaw lists water absorption for Method 8x36 as greater than 0.50% (Vitreous), and as a glazed ceramic it is intended for interior floors and walls.

Which Method color is best for a modern gray home? Sterling 00500 is the Shaw Method color that fits gray and neutral homes best, since its taupe-gray oak tone sits between warm and cool.

How many boxes of Method 8x36 do I need? Each box of Shaw Method 8x36 covers 19.26 sq ft, so divide your room area plus 10 to 15 percent extra by 19.26 and round up; our minimum order is 250 sq. ft.

Design Pairing Guide

Run Daybreak with pale wood or white flat-panel cabinets, warm white walls and champagne bronze hardware. Paramount suits sage, navy or cream kitchens with unlacquered brass. Aerial warms up north-facing rooms and pairs with terracotta accents and a sand grout. Sterling sits well with charcoal islands, stainless appliances and a warm gray joint. Eternity anchors bright white walls, black window frames and a dark espresso grout.
