Shaw St. Pete Surface Bullnose Stone-Look Ceramic Trim Tile

Shaw St. Pete Surface Bullnose (style CS89L) is a 2.76" x 12.99" glazed ceramic trim piece with one rounded, finished edge, made in the stone-look Gulf 00100 color to match the St. Pete field tile and mosaic. Instead of adding area, its job is to close off the raw cut edges where St. Pete tile stops: the top of a wainscot, the outside of a shower niche, or the side of a backsplash. Because a surface bullnose sits on the same plane as the field tile, it suits walls where the tile simply ends on the drywall face.

Best for: Tops of wainscot and backsplashes, shower niche frames, tub surround edges, window returns, outside wall corners.

Colors

  • Gulf 00100: the same warm gray-beige with soft stone-like mottling found on the rest of St. Pete, carried right over the rounded edge.

Why Choose St. Pete Surface Bullnose

  • 13" length runs along an edge with fewer joints than cutting strips of field tile
  • Color-matched to Gulf 00100 on the St. Pete 6x6 and mosaic
  • Glaze hardness of 7 (Mohs)
  • 0.303" thick, in line with the 0.303" mosaic and 0.29" 6x6
  • Moderate (V2) shade variation that blends with the field tile
  • 8.69 sq ft per box

Where to Install

St. Pete Surface Bullnose is a trim piece for finishing the edges of tiled interior walls: backsplash ends and tops, wainscot caps, shower and tub surround edges, niche frames, and window returns. It is not a floor tile. Like the rest of the family, it is semi-vitreous at over 0.50% absorption and unrated for frost, so it is an indoor product.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a surface bullnose tile? A surface bullnose like Shaw St. Pete CS89L is a flat trim tile whose one long edge is rounded over and glazed, used to finish a wall where the tiling stops. It replaces a raw cut edge or metal profile with a matching ceramic edge.

How many St. Pete bullnose pieces do I need? Measure the linear feet of exposed edge and divide by about 1.08 ft, the 12.99" length of each St. Pete Surface Bullnose piece, then add about 10% for corner cuts. A 10 ft run along the top of a backsplash needs roughly 10 pieces before overage.

Does St. Pete bullnose match the St. Pete Mosaic? Yes. St. Pete Surface Bullnose comes in the same Gulf 00100 color as the St. Pete Mosaic and the St. Pete 6x6, so it can edge a mosaic band or niche without a color shift.

Should I use bullnose or a metal edge with St. Pete tile? St. Pete Surface Bullnose gives a soft, rounded edge in the exact Gulf 00100 color, so the finish line almost disappears into the wall. A metal profile shows as a thin metallic line and leans modern, while the color-matched bullnose is the traditional choice.

How thick is St. Pete bullnose compared to the field tile? St. Pete Surface Bullnose is 0.303" thick and the St. Pete 6x6 is 0.29", a difference of just over one hundredth of an inch. That keeps the trim essentially level with the field tile once both are set in thinset.

Design Pairing Guide

Since bullnose defines the edge line, tie it to the fixtures around it. Brushed nickel towel bars and a soft white vanity let the Gulf edge read as part of the wall, while oil-rubbed bronze and cream paint warm it up. Above a backsplash, a light greige paint keeps the transition subtle; a deeper clay or terracotta wall frames the rounded edge more boldly. Match the grout to the field tile so trim joints fade away.
