Shaw Universe 12x24 Calacatta Marble-Look Ceramic Tile

Shaw Universe 12x24 (style 251TS) is a glazed ceramic tile with a Calacatta marble look, measuring 11.8" x 23.62" (nominal 12" x 24") with a smooth finish. It offers the white ground and bold gray veining of Calacatta stone in a rectangular piece that can be laid horizontally to widen a room or vertically to make a shower feel taller. High (V3) shade variation means the veining changes noticeably from tile to tile, so a wall avoids the repeated look of identical prints. It is the go-to Universe format for bathrooms where floor and wall use the same tile.

Best for: Bathroom floors, shower walls, tub surrounds, kitchen floors, powder rooms and laundry rooms (interior).

Colors

• Calacatta 00120: a bright white ground crossed by bold gray veins in the classic Calacatta manner.

Where to Install

Universe 12x24 carries a floor rating from Shaw, so it works on interior floors and walls alike: bathroom floors, shower and tub walls, kitchens, laundry rooms and hallways. It is not frost rated and should not be used outdoors or in unheated spaces. Because of the high variation, lay out tiles from several boxes before setting them to balance heavy and light veining across the room.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Shaw Universe 12x24 real marble? No. Shaw Universe 12x24 is glazed ceramic with a printed Calacatta marble visual, so it does not etch from acidic spills or need the sealing that real marble does.

Can Universe 12x24 be used on a bathroom floor? Yes. Shaw Universe 12x24 carries a Shaw floor rating and a wet DCOF rating of at least 0.42, so interior bathroom floors are an appropriate use, as are shower walls.

What grout color goes with Calacatta-look ceramic tile? For Shaw Universe 12x24 in Calacatta, a bright white or light gray grout keeps the veining as the focus. A soft gray grout hides everyday dirt on floors a little better than pure white.

Should I pick Universe 12x24 or Universe 22x22? Choose Shaw Universe 12x24 for a rectangular shape that suits walls, showers and offset floor layouts, or go with Universe 22x22 for a large square floor with a matte finish and a second color, Marquant.

How much Universe 12x24 should I order? One box of Shaw Universe 12x24 covers 19.38 sq ft; measure the area, add 10-15% for cuts and for culling tiles to balance the veining, then round up to whole boxes. Orders start at 250 sq. ft.

Design Pairing Guide

Calacatta looks sharp with white or light gray shaker cabinets, polished nickel or chrome fixtures and soft white walls, grouted in bright white. For a warmer bath, set it against walnut vanities, unlacquered brass and greige paint with a light gray grout. Navy or deep green painted cabinetry also stands out against the white ground and gray veins.
